Western Landscape Development was started when Joshua Mitchell took over his late Grandfather’s landscape maintenance company "Western Lawn Care". Joshua had worked for this company ever since he was a teenager. Throughout his years of employment, he obtained an education and developed a love for landscaping.

Joshua Mitchell put this newly formed business on hold when he served a mission for his church. This experience became very beneficial to him because he learned the Spanish language, and he can now speak fluently with all of his field employees. During this time he also learned a strong lesson of not just “talking the talk”, but actually “walking the walk”.

Upon completion of his mission, Joshua returned to work in the landscape industry. During this time he learned many skills in order to help him grow his own business. He learned everything he could about plant varieties, irrigation, landscape design, project management, and landscape construction. However, the most important skill he acquired was customer service. Joshua Mitchell knows and understands the importance of customer service. As a result, all of his projects are based upon a strong customer service program.

Over the years, Western Landscape Development has become one of the most successful landscape companies in the central valley. Joshua Mitchell said, "I formed my company for the size that I wanted to maintain. It is a company that has filled in the holes that are so often left missed these days".
